The Basics of ePublications:

Using ePublications
Getting around in an ePublication is easy and user friendly. It's really no different than browsing a website, just point and click. Here is a guide to get you started with the basics. Afterwards, take a look at the other pages in our Resources section for more how-to's on other capabilities found in ePublications.

(Note) A "Page" refers to a 2 page spread...left and right side of the visible page.

Turning Pages
To turn the pages of an ePublication, you have 3 choices;

  • Click on the directional arrows on the navigation bar at the bottom of the pages, if it has been included.

  • Click anywhere on the right page to go forward or the left page to go backwards. (Except where there is a live link)

  • Use the right and left arrow keys on your keyboard to turn the pages.

Links
An ePublication may include a variety of links which may be enabled by text or images. Links will appear to rise up from the page when your mouse cursor moves over them, then simply click on it to initiate it's function. Links in an ePublication may include...
  • Table of Contents - Will take you to the chosen page or chapter

  • Website Address - Opens your web browser

  • Email Address - Opens your email program (You must have Outlook, Outlook Express, or Eudora installed on your computer as your default email program)

  • Other Pages - ePublications may include cross-reference links which when clicked will turn to the referenced page in the ePublication.
(Note) An internet connection is required for website and email links to open.

Pop-Ups
ePublications may include text or image pop-ups. These pop-ups allow you to view a larger version of an image or more information when you click on it, all from within the ePublication itself.

Pop-ups are indicated by a small hand and the words "Popup Image" when your mouse cursor moves over them. The pop-ups may be dragged to any position on your screen by left-clicking and dragging. To close a pop-up, simply click on the blue X on the top right side of the pop-up box.

Pop-ups may also be printed by clicking on the little printer icon on the top right side of the pop-up box. Pop-ups are printed at actual size.

User Buttons or Text
User button or text allow you to perform a number of functions in the ePublication. They can be located on the top or bottom of the pages, or within a navigation bar which hangs below the ePublication. These buttons or text links are self explanatory and moving your mouse over them will bring up a tool-tip indicating their function.

User button or text in an ePublication may include functions such as...
  • Turn the background on and off (If viewing on a CD this function will not work)

  • Minimize the ePublication to your taskbar

  • Send Mail (This function will automatically send the ePublication to the recipient)

  • Print (You may print selected page/pages or the whole ePublication)

  • Close the ePublication

  • Save the ePublication

  • Highlight text in the ePublication

  • Add a sticky note in the ePublication

  • Search the ePublication

  • Edit, View and Lock (For editable fields)
