DNL Reader and ePublication Formats:
All About The DNL Reader
Just as you need the Adobe Reader to view PDF files, to view ePublications in the DNL format you must first install the DNL Reader. The DNL Reader is very small in file size, just 1.2mb. Installation is immediate and needs to be done only once to view any and all ePublications in the DNL format.
From time to time, as new features become available for DNL ePublications, the DNL Reader may need upgraded to accomodate the new features. If this happens, the Reader will notify you that there is an upgrade available. It is perfectly safe to accept the upgrade and this will alow you to enjoy the new features in future ePublications. (Note: An internet connection will be made when upgrading reader)
Installing The Reader
Installing the DNL Reader is easy...
1. Direct Download - click on the Get DNL Reader icon and follow the prompts
2. User Friendly Method - view an in-browser version of a DNL ePublication which will download & install the DNL Reader automatically.
Note: If your ePublication is supplied on CD, the DNL Reader will be included on the CD and can be set up to automatically install, if desired.
ePublication Formats
The following are format choices of our ePublications and their differences...
- DNL
DNL files are data-only files making them resistant to computer viruses, and less likely to be blocked by anti-virus, spyware and spamming filters. However, they do require the installation of the DNL Reader to view and or edit them. In addition, DNL files are slightly smaller in file size than the EXE format.
ePublications containing editable text and/or image fields or the notes feature are only available in the DNL format.
- EXE
ePublications in the EXE format are stand-alone executable files which do not require installation of the Reader to view. Unfortunately, sending an EXE file via email is now an issue due to the proliferation of email viruses. Alternatives include hosting your ePublication on your website for users to download, or ZIP files of the EXE via email.
- Web
Another option is that we can embed your ePublication in a page within your website with a link to that page. When your user clicks the link, the DNL Reader will automatically install if needed, and your ePublication will open in the web browser. Once your ePublication has opened your user may view it within the browser window or detatch it and save it to their computer. (Note: Extra charges apply for the Web Browser option)
